Frequently Asked Questions:

MY DOG WILL EAT ANYTHING! WHY NOT REWARD WITH HOT DOGS?

Your dog's refined senses of smell and taste let them immediately know the difference between our pure meat treats and a heavily processed meat, such as a hot dog. Consider this: eating processed meats, like hot dogs, has been linked to an increased risk of cancer. Part of that risk is likely due to the additives used in the hot dogs.

We believe the higher value the treat, the more enthusiastic the dog will be, and the quicker new behaviors will be learned. According to Wikipedia, "The dog brain is dominated by an olfactory cortex...Dogs can discriminate odors at concentrations nearly 100 million times lower than humans can."

If you are looking for a healthy alternative, try Chipper’s Dog Treats. Your dog will relish the concentrated flavors and aromas of these healthy, high-quality, all-meat treats. There are no byproducts, no fillers, no artificial flavors, colors, preservatives, or anything else but the meat!

WHY NOT REWARD WITH INEXPENSIVE PROCESSED OR BAKED TREATS?

We avoid feeding our dogs anything that contains additives and preservatives. Many of the major brands of treats these days are nothing more than baked cookies or biscuits loaded with unhealthy additives and preservatives. Not only that, most are based on ingredients that are natural allergens to dogs (corn, wheat, soy, etc.).

Take a look at the ingredients list on a label from any of the so-called "natural" treats; some have over 40 ingredients identified. Then, look the Chipper's Dog Treats(TM) ingredient lists - the only ingredient is the meat (beef heart, chicken heart, beef tongue, and turkey heart.) Dehydration is one of the oldest methods of food preservation and it's additive and preservative free!

Campers, hikers, backpackers, etc. carry dehydrated ground meats on the trail and rehydrate them to make healthy meals. They just add water!

We wanted truly natural treats to complement the raw diet we feed our dogs, but ones that are portable and durable enough for all-day outings, while retaining aromas and flavors that are irresistible. With Chipper's Dog Treats(TM), we have achieved just that!

HOW DO I PREPARE CHIPPER'S TREATS?

Just add water! Measure 2 to 3 oz (4-6 tablespoons) into each serving bag. (Less water makes them ready faster, while more water makes them even more soft and plump - your choice). Close the zip lock to seal in the water, and agitate the bag from time to time until the water is absorbed and the treats are plump and soft.

Allow at least 1-2 hours before you are ready to use them. Total time for full water absorption can vary depending on climate and season. Rehydrating overnight in the refrigerator always works!

After rehydration, Chipper’s treats have a wonderful texture; they are slightly dryer than semi-moist, but not nearly as dry as jerky or baked treats. Squeeze them and you will feel their softness. You can easily tear larger pieces into smaller pieces using your fingers - there is no brittle snap or sharp edges as with some other treats.

HOW LONG DO THEY STAY FRESH?

Before Redhydration

After pre-cooking and fully dehydrating the meats, we vacuum pack Chipper’s Dog Treats™ to prolong freshness. When dry, and still inside the vacuum-sealed packaging, they can be stored at least 12 months if you store them in a cool, dark place. The best place for any long-term storage is in the freezer.

After Rehydration

Chipper’s Dog Treats™ are intended for all-day outings, following one simple rule: store treats in the freezer (recommended) or refrigerator between uses, or at least the end of the day. The frozen or chilled treats quickly return to their great taste and texture as soon they quickly thaw or warm up. Used that way, you can expect them to last up to two weeks after rehydration (if your dog lets you keep them that long!). As with any perishable food, individual results may vary, so use your own judgment.
